Last years return of The One Piece Show, after more than a decade on hiatus, was a resounding success in the local art community. We heard one common refrain — “You gotta do this again!”
We heard you. Join us on First Friday, May 3, at Schwitzer Gallery in the CCIC. Bruce Dean and Scott Johnson are hosting this iconic group show featuring works by their artist friends and colleagues. The show will feature one work from each of more than 40 local artists. Artworks will include paintings, prints, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glass art, and more.

Post Show: Wow! What a great turnout. I heard a lot of people say this is the most people they’ve seen at the CCIC. I had a great time meeting old friends and new people. I appreciate the time and energy that Scott Johnson and Bruce Dean and others put into the show.
Idea behind shirts: Why shirts? Originally, it was based on showing a sliver of the main piece. I thought why not just show a sliver of the main design? Why not have some variant designs which compose parts of the main design with less detail? I thought it would be fun to where the shirts over a couple of weeks at various get togethers. The weather wasn’t helping out. Hopefully this limited edition shirts will sell but if not, I’m going to have some awesome JVS merch for this summer.
T-Shirt Details: I produced 4 t-shirt designs for the show but ran out of time to figure a way to show them. I was going to wear one of the shirts, but it was raining pretty hard and didn’t seem like t-shirt weather to me. I’m placing 1 o 4 shirt variant designs here today. The production source was StickerMule. It was interesting to see how this firm could produce one-off shirt designs. Each shirt (Large Only) is for sale for $40. Shipping within the US included.
What’s Next: I will be posting the other 3 Variants every other day over the next week.

It’s awesome that the Dean Johnson One Piece Show is back. I am honored to be amongst 60+ local artists to participate in the returning one-piece show.

What does Jerry’s piece look like?
It’s better to see the actual art up close and personal. It’s also a tradition to only show a snippet of the piece being shown. Below is small view of my piece that will be in the show. After opening night, there will be another post which may show the full art.

Lately, we see so many people struggling. I know what its like to look for job in a regular economy. I can’t believe the struggle that will happen to people who’ve recently lost their job and will go on unemployment in a broken down economy. What can I do? I’ve been seeing a lot of messages that inspired me. They weren’t awesome, nor graphically great Banksy sidewalk art, but as I saw chalk messages on sidewalks, and hand-scrawled signs on storefronts…I began to think. What can I do? How can I, as a designer, contribute something that works or helps people stay connected and strong? I decided to try and start something, maybe small but maybe, just maybe, it can grow?
So, I’m attempting to start something, one duck at time. I created 6 variants of the BR image below, but based on neighborhood voting, this one resonates the best. Im also setting up a kickstarter to get some financial backing for more applications. And if it will work in Broad Ripple, it will work for Indy and other areas.
